KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- A Taiwanese man who allegedly hit a motorcycle ridden by a policeman attached to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) on Jalan Tun Sambanthan last Saturday will be charged at the Traffic Magistrate's Court here tomorrow.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 52-year-old man would be charged under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and causing injuries to the policeman.
He said the suspect would also face charges under Sections 39A(1) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 following investigations by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters.
“The proceedings are scheduled to begin at 9.30 am tomorrow at the Jalan Duta Traffic Magistrate's Court,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said the 42-year-old policeman was hit from behind by a car at about 8.50 pm last Saturday while returning home after completing escort duties.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the car driven by the suspect was travelling from Ampang towards Brickfields when it collided with the victim's motorcycle.
“The suspect allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was detained by another officer from the Kuala Lumpur JSPT Motorcycle Unit. The victim sustained injuries to his hands and legs and was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment,” he said.
Mohd Zamzuri said police uncovered a package containing suspected ecstasy pills during a search of the vehicle, while the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, ketamine and amphetamine in a preliminary urine test.
He said the suspect was remanded for four days beginning last Sunday to facilitate investigations.
The investigation papers were referred to the Kuala Lumpur prosecution director at the Attorney General's Chambers today for further instructions on prosecution.
