PUTRAJAYA, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Reports arising from investigations by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) Special Investigation Committee on Financial Crime Issues will be presented to the Cabinet for consideration and action before being made public.
In a statement today, the AGC said the committee had been mandated to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the trail of financial crimes from their earliest stages.
“The investigation will be conducted transparently and comprehensively, without being limited to any particular individual or company, to ensure that all relevant aspects are thoroughly examined based on the facts and evidence obtained,” it said.
The committee held its first meeting today, chaired by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, to determine its membership, as well as the scope and parameters of the investigation, the AGC said.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia and the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre.
The AGC said the investigation would involve cooperation among the relevant enforcement agencies to ensure coordinated and integrated action.
On Oct 20, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in the Dewan Rakyat that the AGC had been mandated to lead and coordinate several high-profile financial crime investigations.
Anwar gave an assurance that the government would not protect any party involved in corporate criminal activities.
