KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Super League holders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) FC have offered football fans a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Southern Tigers through the latest documentary, ‘UNTAMED’, which chronicles the club’s transformation into one of Asia’s leading football powerhouses.
The 76-minute documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of Malaysia’s most successful football club, exploring the triumphs, challenges, controversies and relentless pursuit of excellence that have defined its rise over the past 13 years.
The documentary was showcased at an exclusive cinematic experience held at TGV Cinemas Suria KLCC here today.
Former JDT captain Safiq Rahim believes ‘UNTAMED’ has the potential to appeal to a wider audience beyond the club’s loyal supporters, including football enthusiasts across Malaysia and overseas.
“JDT is for everyone. I believe this documentary is not just for JDT fans but also for Malaysian football supporters and even audiences from other countries,” he told reporters after the exclusive screening.
Meanwhile, JDT assistant head coach Aidil Zafuan Abd Radzak described the documentary as an eye-opening production that offers a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes efforts that have contributed to the Southern Tigers’ remarkable success over the years.
A key highlight of ‘UNTAMED’ is the personal perspective of the Regent of Johor and JDT owner Tunku Mahkota Ismail, who shares insights into his vision, the club’s journey and his ambition to transform the Southern Tigers into a formidable force in Asian football.
Through exclusive access to the dressing room, training ground and club operations, the documentary also sheds light on the immense pressure and sacrifices involved in maintaining JDT’s winning culture.
The documentary, available for streaming on JDT+, features several influential figures behind JDT’s development, including chief operating officer Alistair Edwards, finance director Datuk Seri Mohamad Jaifuddin Bujang Mohidin, special projects manager Kevin Ramalingam and former sporting director Martin Prest.
On the sporting front, JDT stars Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi, Bergson da Silva, Matt Davies and La’vere Corbin Ong share their experiences alongside former players Safiq and Safee Sali, as well as former head coach Bojan Hodak.
Having amassed 35 trophies in 13 years, JDT are ranked first in Southeast Asia and 10th in Asia, further cementing their reputation as one of the region’s leading football clubs.
JDT also made history in 2015 when they became the first Malaysian club to win the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup, marking a significant milestone in the country’s football history.
