KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has crippled Geng Suria, an organised crime group believed to be involved in 20 cases of property and violent crimes, including armed gang robberies that caused injuries, in Kedah.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the success was the result of Op Sunset, conducted by the Bukit Aman CID in collaboration with the Kedah contingent CID from Sept 24 to 27 in Kedah and Perak.

He said the group, comprising nine members aged between 28 and 52, was led by a 30-year-old local man and was believed to have been active since early 2024.

“Police arrested six suspects aged between 28 and 39, while the other three group members are being held at Sungai Buloh Prison, Pokok Sena Prison and Sungai Petani Prison for other criminal offences,” he said in a statement today.

He said the six suspects were being detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until Oct 25.

“Checks found that several suspects had previous criminal records involving vehicle theft, housebreaking, drug offences, gang robberies and causing grievous hurt using sharp weapons.

“Police also seized six mobile phones of various brands and 189 ecstasy pills weighing an estimated 101.12 grammes. An investigation into the drug seizure has been opened under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Kumar said the group’s modus operandi was to target homes belonging to foreigners, business premises and residential properties identified by the group leader.

He said the group members used dangerous weapons such as knives and machetes during robberies and did not hesitate to injure victims to facilitate their criminal activities.

“Their aggressive and violent actions caused victims to experience fear and trauma, while several victims also sustained serious injuries.”

“The stolen valuables would be sold for money, with the proceeds distributed by the group leader among the members based on their respective roles and involvement,” he said.

He said that, based on police reports received since 2024, Geng Suria’s activities had caused losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit, besides compromising victims’ safety.

“The investigation papers were referred to the Serious Crimes Unit of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and approval was obtained to charge all nine group members under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code for being members of an organised crime group.

“All nine members of Geng Suria are scheduled to be charged tomorrow at the Sungai Petani Sessions Court in Kedah,” he said.

He said the PDRM remained committed to taking action against any individuals or groups involved in organised crime to ensure public safety and well-being.

“Police also urge the public to continue cooperating by providing information to help the authorities combat criminal activities,” he said.
