PUTRAJAYA, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will hold solat hajat (special prayers of need) at three major mosques under its administration after Friday prayers this week, seeking Allah’s protection for Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine and safety for Malaysia amid the haze.

JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the initiative followed an order from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and a call from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan for Muslims to perform special prayers for both matters.

The three mosques are Masjid Negara (National Mosque) in Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Putra, and Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in Putrajaya.

Sirajuddin said special prayers would be recited to seek protection for Al-Aqsa Mosque from incursions and oppression, and to ask that Malaysia be spared the haze, which could affect people's health and well-being.

“Muslims are urged to come together to enliven mosques, strengthen Muslim unity and offer more prayers for Allah SWT to grant protection, safety and blessings to their brothers and sisters in Palestine and all Malaysians.

“May this initiative serve as a means of uniting the hearts of Muslims in recognising our shared responsibilities, strengthening solidarity with Palestine and praying for the well-being of our beloved country,” he said in a statement today.
