KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is closely monitoring developments across Europe, particularly in Paris, France, amid ongoing demonstrations.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the Foreign Ministry, through its embassies, was monitoring the situation, including in Paris, where demonstrations over the country’s education budget had been held.
He said the Malaysian Embassy in Paris was gathering and reviewing information on the latest situation, including matters concerning Malaysians in the country.
“At the embassy level, we are reviewing all reports.
“We are also advising Malaysians in Paris, including those currently on holiday or visiting the city, to inform the Malaysian Embassy in Paris of their whereabouts,” he said.
He told reporters this after delivering the keynote address at the Symposium on the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP): Prosperity Through Partnership here on Wednesday.
Lukanisman said the embassy had also received enquiries and concerns from Malaysians regarding the whereabouts of their family members and employees in Paris.
On Sunday, the Foreign Ministry advised Malaysians to consider postponing non-essential travel to France until the situation improved, following ongoing demonstrations in major cities across the country.
Media reports also said protests against the rising cost of living had spread to several other European countries, including Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Albania.
