IPOH, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Flooding has hit Perak again after water levels rose in several villages in Gerik, Hulu Perak district, following continuous rain since last night.

As of this morning, 120 people from 36 families have been affected.

Two temporary relief centres were opened at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Idris Shah II and SMK Gerik from midnight yesterday, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said in a statement.

“Flooding in parts of Kampung Air Panas and Kampung Padang has forced 96 people from 31 families to seek shelter at SMK Gerik and another 24 people from five families at SMK Sultan Idris Shah II,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, 37 people from 14 families remain at the temporary relief centre at SK Matang after a storm affected residents in Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati and Kampung Hujung Matang last week.
