BERLIN, Oct 20 (Bernama-dpa) --Egypt midfielder Mostafa Ziko has been handed a five-match ban, while coach Hossam Hassan has been suspended for three games over incidents following Egypt’s World Cup elimination by Argentina, the Egyptian Football Association said, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
A statement said that team manager Ibrahim Hassan was also banned for three games by world governing body FIFA and that Egypt plans to appeal the sanctions.
Tempers flared after the final whistle of the July 7 round of 16 match, with the Egyptian camp furious at French referee François Letexier and his assistants.
Egypt lodged an official complaint at FIFA over the officiating the day after the match and wanted Letexier banned for the rest of the tournament.
Their main complaint was that before Enzo Fernández's 3-2 winner in stoppage time, Argentine player Alexis Mac Allister pulled down Hamdi Fathi in the penalty area at the other end for which Letexier did not award a penalty.
Ziko had a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up that would otherwise have given Egypt a 3-0 lead.
