GEORGE TOWN, Oct 17 (Bernama) –  UDA Holdings Bhd has allocated RM5 million for the construction of a public park and recreational facilities in Penang, including the 2.5-acre Laman Tanjong next to the Eight & Eight Condominium development in Tanjung Tokong.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the condominium development also offered added value to buyers following the conversion of its land status from leasehold to freehold.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Penang government for its cooperation and support in facilitating the conversion to freehold status for the Eight & Eight Condominium development.

“The collaboration between the federal government, the state government and implementing agencies such as UDA reflects the spirit of the Blue Ocean Strategy, which prioritises the synergy of expertise and resources across agencies to deliver practical, efficient and people-centric solutions, thereby driving quality urban development,” he said.

He said this when officiating the Eight & Eight Condominium Experience Centre here today, which was also attended by UDA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali and Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament Syarleena Abdul Rashid.

Sim said Laman Tanjong would provide recreational space while enhancing the value of the development. The condominium project would also create economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs by generating demand for various services.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Fuaad said UDA had played a key role in shaping Penang’s development landscape since 1971, particularly in Tanjung Tokong, through residential, commercial and infrastructure projects that supported regional growth and the well-being of the local community.

“These projects are designed to enhance the quality of life by fostering a more inclusive environment, with essential amenities such as community halls, surau (prayer halls) and multi-storey car parks. They are also strategically located near shopping malls, schools and other key facilities,” he said.

On other developments in the area, Ahmad Fuaad said the Warisan Tanjung project was being developed in phases on a 17.58-hectare site, comprising 3,836 residential units across various categories, including low-cost, low-medium-cost, affordable and open-market housing.

Of the total, 1,200 units were designated as replacement homes for the original residents of Tanjung Tokong who were relocated, with 550 units completed and handed over, while the remaining 650 were still in the planning stage, he said.

In addition, UDA has developed Desiran Tanjung, spanning 21.88 hectares (54.07 acres), which includes Vantage Desiran Tanjung, a commercial area comprising about 120 shop-office units along Jalan Tanjung Tokong.

On the Eight & Eight Condominium development, Ahmad Fuaad said the project comprised 600 residential units housed in two towers. Each floor features a single-loaded corridor design to optimise natural lighting and ventilation.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, the development targets first-time homebuyers, professionals and investors. Available units include three-bedroom, two-bathroom layouts ranging from 885 to 1,019 square feet, as well as three-bedroom, three-bathroom units measuring 1,139 square feet, with prices starting at RM691,628.

“Facilities include a surau, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, a swimming pool, gymnasium, yoga space, game room, co-working space and aerobics room. The multipurpose hall can also be used as a pickleball and badminton court. Other amenities include indoor and outdoor barbecue areas,” he said.

He added that the development incorporated sustainable features, including low-volatile organic compound (VOC) paints, a rainwater harvesting system, herb gardens and green landscaping. It is also located near hospitals, schools, shopping malls and recreational attractions, including the Penang Botanic Gardens.

Ahmad Fuaad said buyers could also participate in the Bonanza Memenuhi Impian 2026 (Fulfilling Dreams Bonanza 2026) campaign, which runs until Dec 31 and offers a condominium unit at Residensi Dedaun in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, valued at more than RM500,000, as its grand prize.
