KUANTAN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has forged a strategic partnership with Move Robotic Sdn Bhd and Pixel Intelligence Co Ltd (PIX Moving) to accelerate the development and adoption of smart mobility technologies in Malaysia.
UMPSA in a statement today said under the partnership, the university would undertake research and development (R&D) to improve autonomous mobility algorithms, making them better suited to local road environments.
“Data collected throughout the project will also be used to help the algorithms better understand and respond to driving patterns and interactions among road users in Malaysia,” the statement said.
Move Robotic, a company specialising in indoor and outdoor autonomous mobility and automation system, will focus on deploying RoboBus in actual commercial environments to gain operational experience, identify user needs, and assess challenges and improvements needed to support smart mobility adoption.
The company will also work with the relevant Malaysian authorities to share operational insights, supporting the refinement of regulations and the development of guidelines that prioritise smart mobility safety, the statement said.
PIX Moving, a global city robotics and autonomous mobility company that designs AI-native urban infrastructure and modular self-driving vehicles, will provide the autonomous vehicle platform, together with technical expertise and experience in operating RoboBus fleets commercially.
These contributions will form the basis for adapting and evaluating the technology to meet local requirements.
PIX Moving chief executive officer Angelo (Chuan) Yu, UMPSA Research and Innovation Department Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer director Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Aizzat Zakaria, and Move Robotic chief executive officer Mohd Hazeli Rasul exchanged the MoA documents last Thursday at the Paris Motor Show 2026 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in France.
The ceremony was witnessed by Malaysia's Ambassador to France, Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim.
UMPSA Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Yatimah Alias said the memorandum of agreement (MoA) brings together the expertise of all three parties to develop smart mobility solutions suited to Malaysia's road conditions, driving patterns and operational requirements.
“The value of this collaboration lies in the capabilities we can develop together. Technology implementation must be accompanied by knowledge mastery, technical experience and problem-solving capabilities so that its benefits can strengthen the country's smart mobility ecosystem,” she said.
