KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Genting Property Sdn Bhd has entered into a master planning agreement with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to advance the development of Johor Tech Smart City (JTSC).

The property division of Genting Plantations Berhad, said in a statement today that the partnership was formalised through a master planning agreement signed at the Shenzhen Longgang International Art Centre, China, in conjunction with Huawei’s “Cloud-Powered Infrastructure - A New Digital Ecosystem” event.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Genting Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and Huawei executive member of the supervisory board and chief logistics officer Ren Shulu.

Under the statement, Huawei would provide its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, technological expertise and smart campus experience to support JTSC’s planning, particularly its flagship 430-acre Smart Campus within the Knowledge AI Campus.

“The collaboration marks Huawei’s first international smart campus partnership and its first overseas deployment of AI-enabled master-planning capabilities.

“The agreement will infuse Huawei's global smart campus expertise, drawn from its deployments in Shanghai and Dongguan, China, into JTSC's foundational design,” it added.

It added that the landmark alliance would serve as a strategic launchpad for a broader digital transformation across the wider Genting Plantations ecosystem.

“By introducing Huawei's enterprise intelligence to core operations, the partnership sets the stage for a wide-ranging collaboration across the entire Genting Plantations Group, paving the way for next-generation innovation in agriculture technology, sustainable energy management and data-driven corporate infrastructure,” it said.

Meanwhile, Genting Plantations chief executive and executive director Datuk Lim Keong Hui said the 174-hectare smart campus would serve as a premier destination where global innovation could unlock local opportunities and shape a progressive future through purposeful and strategic intent.

“We believe technology must drive progress, defined by the local talent we empower and the draw of premier, highly sought-after investments that every progressive economy competes for,” he said.

Huawei Malaysia enterprise business group deputy chief executive officer Du Xianjun said the smart campus would serve as a new benchmark for how future intelligent ecosystems were built and managed worldwide.

“While this blueprint was previously exclusive to Huawei’s own Smart Campuses in China, they are now open for global corporates to flourish in an integrated, lifestyle-driven innovation ecosystem,” he added.

Beyond JTSC, the alliance would also serve as a strategic launchpad for digital transformation across the broader Genting Plantations group, paving the way for next-generation innovation in agriculture technology, sustainable energy management  and data-driven corporate infrastructure.

Genting Property Sdn Bhd said the development was also expected to support the growth of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) by attracting multinational companies and technology innovators, facilitating advanced manufacturing and strengthening the local industrial ecosystem.
