KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today graced the National Child Protection Leadership Conference 2026, which focuses on strengthening child protection policies and efforts.

Tengku Amir Shah, the royal patron of the Children’s Protection Society of Malaysia (CPSM), attended the conference, held at the International Youth Centre here, in support of the organisation’s efforts to develop child protection policies.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by CPSM president Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff, CPSM Kuala Lumpur branch chairman Tengku Datuk Asra Jehan Tengku Azlan, and her deputy, Nawiza Hanoum Nazir Ariff.

Nawiza Hanoum said the conference, which kicked off yesterday, brings together stakeholders from government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including representatives from ASEAN countries, to exchange views and expertise on strengthening child protection systems.

“Each NGO has its area of expertise in dealing with children's issues, including education, welfare, health and legal matters, but most work in isolation.

“The conference allows us to bring NGOs and relevant organisations together to establish partnerships, so that when we encounter issues beyond our expertise, we know whom to consult and collaborate with to help children in need,” she told Bernama.

She said the conference outcomes will be submitted to the government as recommendations to improve the country’s child protection policies.

More than 70 participants attended the two-day conference, which carried the theme “The Best Interests of the Child” and focused on four main pillars: Protect, Empower, Educate and Report, to strengthen child protection efforts.
