KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The government has allocated RM200 million for sekolah agama rakyat, tahfiz institutions and pondok schools in 2027, with the scope of assistance expanded to include operational expenses.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli said the allocation was announced in the 2027 Budget tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday.

As of April 30 this year, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) had distributed RM22.5 million from a special Federal Government allocation to 309 registered Islamic educational institutions nationwide for maintenance and upgrading works.

“Since May 2026, the implementation of the special allocation has been coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), with funds continuing to be disbursed in stages,” she said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She was responding to a question from Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena) on the status of maintenance allocations and Federal Government assistance for Islamic educational institutions nationwide.

In response to a supplementary question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) on the scope of works eligible for funding, Marhamah said the allocation encompassed six key areas: safety, infrastructure maintenance and upgrading, fire prevention, electrical wiring, building improvements and plumbing systems.

“These improvements are aimed at providing more comprehensive support for Islamic educational institutions, and we hope all eligible institutions will benefit from the allocation,” she said.
