Budget 2027 Initiatives To Boost Halal Industry, Expand Global Markets - Zulkifli

BANGI, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Various initiatives and incentives announced under Budget 2027 are expected to further boost Malaysia’s halal industry, particularly by helping local players expand into international markets, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

He said Malaysia aimed to grow the industry both domestically and internationally, building on its established reputation in halal certification.

“We want to see our halal industry thrive not only in the domestic market but also see more local players expand internationally.

“We have vast potential as Malaysia is a global reference point for halal matters, particularly in certification led by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM),” he told reporters after officiating the 2026 National Halal Executives Conference (PEH26) and launching the Global Halal School (GHS) at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre here today.

Zulkifli said Malaysia had a comprehensive halal ecosystem, supported by various agencies, with halal executives playing an important role in ensuring that halal principles were upheld throughout industry operations.

He said their responsibilities should extend beyond documentation and certification compliance to include promoting integrity, cleanliness, sustainability and health.

Meanwhile, he said GHS, an initiative by Kolej UNITI Port Dickson and the UNITI Halal Centre (UHAC), was expected to broaden public knowledge and awareness of halal matters.

The initiative could also help position Malaysia as an international hub for halal knowledge, training and expertise, complementing its role in halal production and certification.

He said GHS built on the earlier Virtual Halal School, while mobility programmes and halal educational tourism introduced by the institutions aimed to give international participants a closer understanding of Malaysia’s halal ecosystem.

Zulkifli added that strengthening halal education was essential to producing more competent and ethical professionals with a comprehensive understanding of halal principles.

Kolej UNITI Port Dickson has offered a Diploma in Halal Industry Management since 2013.

PEH26 brings together halal executives, industry players and religious authorities to discuss current issues, industry needs and the future direction of Malaysia’s halal sector.
